Castles were the pillars of everyday medieval life. They were shelters for armies and knights. They were the home and workplace to people of the highest importance, such as kings, queens, lords, and ladies, and to people of the lowest importance, like sweepers, grooms, and peasants. However, great medieval castles could take a lifetime to build and were expensive as well. It took many groups of workers to accomplish the tasks of building the castle. For example, the craftsmen and builders would cut stones, shape floors and rafters, and work on the outer wall. While freemasons cut and shaped decorative stones for the castle, rough masons would lay the walls of the castle ...

Cooks must have worked immensely hard to prepare the divine dishes lords and ladies ate. While food for peasants was usually stale bread or low-class cheese, food in a castle included delicious roasted meat, soups and scrumptious desserts. If a guest came over for a meal, a many-course feast would be prepared. Most of the food was cooked over a fireplace or in a bulky oven, but soups, stews and crops were cooked in a cauldron ... On some occasions a chef might even use their precious salt, which was considered rare at that time and kept under lock and key. Unfortunately, preserving this food was difficult, and for a while this was a problem until the cold cupboard was invented.

One of the most important and revolutionary instruments invented in the Middle Ages was the leech. Leeches were used in the Middle Ages to remove blood clots, or venous congestion. If a leech was used properly and was connected correctly to the patient, the leech could suck the blood from the vein that was congested, and eventually the leech would suck out the blood clot. This would clear the way for the other blood to flow normally.
